Cargo Pants

Original Design

These cargo pants were a project made out of anger and frustration. I had originally purchased a pair of cargo pants off Amazon and had gotten them in the largest size available(XL) because I like my cargo pants to be a little baggy. However, when they arrived, I was furious to try them on and see that they were 1) too short 2) too tight 3) cheap material. And these were no cheap pants either! I paid 40$ for some good, quality cargo pants, and was sent trash instead.

I decided I could make a better pair of cargo pants than Amazon and put myself to work. I got some green corduroy, some pleather, some heavy duty thread, some zippers, a cargo pants pattern, and some belt pieces (buckles, straps, etc.). Then I set off to work. Now, it became abundantly clear that I hadn’t gotten enough thread for the project but luckily I had a similar color thread lying around, just not heavy duty.

Bonus points if you can spot the thread change.

I altered the pattern heavily as I never like doing things by the pattern (boring) and got a pretty amazing result. The zippers at three different points allow me to change the pants into capris, and shorts whenever I need to.

I added the pleather to protect the knees as they tend to rip and wear out most often when it comes to pants. These cargo pants are a staple of my wardrobe as they have so many pockets!

This project did take longer than any of my usual projects as I had to double-fold each seam to keep it from unravelling and had to reinforce certain areas to keep it from ripping.

However, I am very proud of how they turned out, regardless of the exposed stitching or not.
