Now, you must be wondering, “Cheap Sweater? Why would you name one of your designs ‘Cheap Sweater’?” And I am here to tell you why, dear reader.
The inspiration for this design came from eBay, shockingly enough. On Pinterest, I stumbled across an ad for a glorious sweater being sold on eBay.
It was beautiful.
And I wanted it.
It was also upwards of $1,000. Yeahhhh, as a broke college student, I don’t have that kind of money, so instead, I studied the pictures of the sweater and decided to try and make it much, much cheaper.
I took my favorite, green, ribbed sweater, which is just perfectly too large, took my red, yarn, knit sweater that I’d worn exactly once, and a black, thrifted, sleeveless, turtleneck crop top, and got to work.
It took me maybe three hours to make this masterpiece. It has a belt in the back that attaches to the other side of the belt to make the wrapping look complete. I used the red knit sweater as a lining and to give it more thickness, then used the green ribbed sweater for the outer shell. I cut the crop top in half and attached two buckles and a hood to create more structure for the sweater.
I am very proud to say that this sweater looks… similar to the one I saw on eBay. But it soothes my shopaholic soul, so I count that as a win!
(Cost me no money to make as I reused old clothing)!
