As you can tell by the title, this shirt is an alteration, NOT an original design. I bought this shirt on an app called Devil Inspired, and they sell a lot of cosplays, historical fashion, and traditional Japanese fashion. This shirt was part of a three-piece order, and unfortunately, everything in this order was too small.
I had purchased the largest sizes for each piece, and they were all still too small. I was immensely disappointed as it took three months for my packages to even arrive. However, the great part about being a Fashion Design Major is that nothing is really ever the wrong size with a little elbow grease.
So, I threw the skirt under my old Singer Touch & Sew machine and got to work.
I used gold satin, a similar material to the red fabric, and started piecing together a new corset front. Originally, this was a button front, but even with the alterations the buttons looked like they were about to pop.

I figured the best thing to do would be to make this a corset front with the eyelets I had leftover from a previous project. This helped the top fit like a dream. As you can see, I also had to alter the back of the shirt as it was just a little too small at that point.
The great part about this project, however, is that now I have another Historical fashion piece to wear on the street whenever I feel like it!
But, like I always say, “No size is the wrong size when you’re a Fashion Major.”
