Hades

My Hades design.

This was inspired because of a specific collared-shirt and vest design I’d seen on Pinterest, not knowing that it was Jeff Goldblum’s costume for the Wizard in the movie Wicked. But regardless, I loved this design for the Greek God of the Dead.

Throughout history, there are many different tales of the Greek Gods, some good, some bad, some told from a darker perspective and some told from a lighter one. But each is unique and important to the Greek Mythos.

I wanted to depict the god of the dead not as an unfeeling and disinterested god over the end of mortal lives, but as a god that feels for mortals and respects them.

This piece would be sewn using embroidery and leather paint to show the diversity and uniqueness of the underworld. The dark blue through the midsection would be to represent one of the most famous rivers of the underworld, Nyx.

I will admit, This was heavily inspired by the Disney’s Hercules Hades color scheme. I really liked the blues and greys that seem to represent death throughout all cultures.
